Viswasam (2019), starring Ajith Kumar and directed by Siva, was a massive blockbuster and one of the biggest hits in Tamil cinema. Despite clashing with Rajinikanth’s Petta during the Pongal 2019 release, Viswasam emerged as one of the highest-grossing Tamil film in Tamil Nadu at that time, collecting over ₹125 crore in the state alone. The film had a phenomenal run in B & C centers, proving Ajith’s strong hold over the rural audience.
While Petta performed well in multiplexes and overseas, Viswasam dominated Tamil Nadu with exceptional word-of-mouth and family-friendly content. The film grossed over ₹200 crore worldwide, making it one of Ajith’s highest-grossing films. Its emotional storyline, Imman’s music, and Ajith-Nayanthara’s chemistry contributed to its long theatrical run.
