Vedalam, starring Ajith Kumar and directed by Siva, a mass action entertainer released for Diwali 2015. The film featured Ajith in a dual-shaded role, portraying a lovable brother with a violent past. His transformation from a soft-spoken cab driver to a ruthless gangster was one of the film’s highlights.
The movie opened to a record-breaking ₹15.5 crore in Tamil Nadu on Day 1, setting a new opening day record at the time. Despite mixed reviews, Vedalam became a huge commercial success, grossing around ₹125 crore worldwide.
